Mary H. Haas

Mary Helen Haas, 77, the mother of Kaaren Valenta of Newtown, died on January 3 in the Woodbine nursing home in Oak Park, Ill.

Mrs Haas, known to family and friends as Marie, was the widow of George E. Haas of Bradenton, Fla., who died last April.

Born in Boston, Mass., a daughter of the late Harry V. and Helen Phillips, Mrs Haas was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She also is survived by another daughter, Eileen Haas-Linde of Oak Park; four grandchildren, Jason Valenta of Sandy Hook; Caroline Valenta of Snowmas Village, Colo.; and Sasha and Karina Linde of Oak Park; a sister, Alyce Roth of South Dennis, Mass; two brothers, Henry V. Phillips and John Walter Phillips of Florida; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Peoples of Bradenton, and several nieces and nephews.

Interment of both Mary H. Haas and George E. Haas will be in Arlington National Cemetery in the spring.
