High School Skaters Win Third Straight

Newtown High School’s hockey team skated to three straight wins to close out 2011. The Nighthawks, after nipping Wilton 3-2 on December 20, blanked Rockville-Manchester-Stafford 4-0 at Danbury Ice Arena on December 27, then toppled Watertown-Pomperaug 4-1 at The Arena At Harbor Yard in Bridgeport on December 31 to improve to 3-2 overall heading into Thursday’s clash with Guilford in East Haven on Thursday (after The Bee went to press).

In the win over Rockville-Manchester-Stafford, Brett Klein and Matt Sabia both tallied a goal and an assist, and Evan Isaacs and Christian Blais also found the back of the net. Jake Solomons added an assist. Goaltender Mike Allwein kicked aside ten shots, and Patrick McLoughlin made one save in the win.

Against Watertown-Pomperaug, Parker Rodbell, Blais, Isaacs, and Solomons all scored. Sabia assisted two of the tallies, and Blais and Dan Harrison also had helpers.

The Nighthawks welcome E.O. Smith-Tolland-Windham to Danbury Ice Arena for a 3:50 pm faceoff this Saturday, January 7. Joel Barlow visits Newtown at 6:40 pm on Wednesday, January 11.
