Icehawk Hockey Team Rings In New Year With Jingle Bell Tournament Triumph
Newtowners Colby Fowler and Matthias Paltauf helped their Northwestern Icehawks Squirt A hockey team go undefeated to claim the New Yearâs Jingle Bell Tournament Squirt Championship up in Marlborough, Mass. this past weekend.
The Icehawks finished the tourney with a dominating 6-0 record, outscoring their opponents 39-3.
They played in four round-robin games starting early on Friday morning, defeating the the Tri-Valley Indians 10-0 and the Salem Saints 5-1.
On Saturday, the Icehawks beat the KP Walpole Wombats 10-0 and blanked the Franklin Flyers 6-0 to finish the opening round and reach the semifinal round.
In another shutout effort, the Icehawks blanked the Natick Comets 5-0 as Paltauf netted two of the goals.
The semifinal round win set up a rematch with the Salem Saints, the only team to score a goal against the Icehawks, in the championship.
The Icehawks prevailed 3-2 as Paltauf scored the first goal and assisted on the game-winner.
Paltauf finished the tournament with six goals and six assists, and Fowler had three goals and three assists in a solid effort.
