NHS Gymnasts Second In Season Opener

Newtown High School’s first-year gymnastics team kicked off the season with a strong showing and earned second place, narrowly missing first, against host and winner, New Milford. New Milford compiled 125.450 points, Newtown finished with 125.400, and Oxford had 117.450 in the three-team meet.

The Nighthawks were first on the balance beam with a cumulative score of 30.900, led by an 8.100 performance from Elisha Wilson, and won the floor event with a 32.500 as Wilson scored an 8.700 and Kaitlyn Tumney had an 8.300. Newtown placed second in both the vault and bars events. Meagan Foy had a 7.500 effort on the vault, Wilson had an 8.300 score on bars, and Leah Wallace had 8.200 scores both on vault and bars. Anna Jannott had a 7.600 score on the beam and a 7.700 on the floor. Tumney also had a 7.800 effort on the vault.
