Women’s Center Hosts Wellness Series, Family Workshop

DANBURY — Since January is the month when many pay closer attention to improving health and wellness in the New Year, the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury is hosting a new, free three-part evening seminar series, “Eat, Breathe, Dream.”

Women’s Center experts will share easy, affordable ideas for improving diet, relaxing, and lifting spirits in the coming year. The workshops begin on Thursday, January 20, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, with “Eat,” featuring Registered Dietitian Jacqueline Gomez, who promises to stir up some fun with her healthy winter recipes for busy people on a budget.

A light supper based on one of her recipes will be served.

Relaxation will be the theme of the second program, “Breathe,” on Thursday, January 27, at 6:30 pm. Maire Hanna will provide gentle stress reducing techniques. Participants will learn breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, imagery techniques, and meditation.

No special equipment is required, just comfortable clothing and a towel or mat.

The center’s “Dream” evening, scheduled for Thursday, February 3, at 6:30 pm, welcomes back guest speaker Nancy Weston, who has organized and led dream groups and workshops for more than 20 years.

Certified in several dreamwork training programs, she believes that unlocking dreams is one of the best avenues toward health and wholeness.

Interested individuals may register for the entire series, or elect to attend individual evenings. Attendance is limited to 15 guests per evening, so register early by calling 203-731-5200, extension 202.

All programs are free and held in the Women’s Center Community Room, 8 West Street, second floor (Thursday, February 10 is the snow date).

In other news, the Women’s Center is helping recently divorced families build new beginnings in a safe place for learning, support and healing by offering closed, facilitated support groups for children ages 5–7 and 8–11.

A required corresponding group for their parents will be conducted simultaneously. Group topics include family changes, feelings, holiday plans, two homes and communication, finding out, and new relationships.

The eight-week program begins on January 20, and will meet weekly on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7 at the center. Registration is by appointment only and required by January 13.
