McCarthy Sets 800 Record As Track And Field Teams Compete

Newtown High School's track and field teams competed in a South-West Conference developmental meet at Wesleyan University, in Middletown, on January 6. Ally McCarthy turned in of the many Nighthawk highlights by setting the school record in the 800 meter dash. Top-ten Newtown results are as follows:

Carly Swierbut won the 55 in 7.45, and Brianna Lovely was sixth in 7.88.

Elisa Barricelli came in seventh in the 300 in 47.68.

In the 600, Sophia Guevara was sixth in 1:50.60, and Ally Toth came in tenth in 1:54.70.

McCarthy was second in the 800 in 2:26.01, Guevara came in third in 2:33.37, and Maddie Fetchick placed ninth in 2:40.11.

Fetchick came in 13th in the 1000 with a time of 3:38.65.

In the 1600, McCarthy was sixth in 5:36.58, and Lu Hage placed eighth in 5:42.52.

Emily Tressler placed third in the 3200 in 12:21.15, and Hallie Filan came in tenth in 13:16.33.

Audrey Benson was third in the 55 hurdles, clocking in at 9.79.

Newtown's 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams were both sixth, and the 1600 sprint medley relay was first. The medley relay team comprised Lovely, Victoria Moran, Barricelli, and McCarthy.

Sarah Tressler came in fifth in the high jump with a leap of 4-06.

Katie Ryan placed second in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9-06, and was fifth in the long jump competition with a jump of 15-05.25. Sarah Tressler was ninth in the long jump with a distance of 14-06.75.

Anna Burns was second in the shot-put event with a throw of 28-04.

For the boys, in the 800, Justin Halmose placed third in the 800 in a time of 2:14.26, and was second in the 1600, clocking in at 4:54.64. Halmose came in fourth in the 3200 in 10:33.78.

Thomas Hartley was sixth in the 55 hurdles with a time of 9.03.

Newtown's 4x200 and 4x400 relays were fifth and sixth, respectively.

In the high jump competition, Aidan Jasinski was seventh, clearing 5-04.

Newtown had two finishers among the top ten in the pole vault with Jasinski placing fifth with a jump of 11-06 and Sam Edwards coming in eighth clearing 9-00.

Robert Carroll was second in the shot-put with a throw of 38-08.50, and Grant Baker placed fourth with a throw of 35-06.
