Mid-December brought a visitor, a special field trip for eighth grade students, and a movie viewing for younger grades at St Rose of Lima School.

As shared by St Rose of Lima School Director of Mission Advancement Laura Moulder, St Rose of Lima School had a special visitor the morning of December 13: Superintendent of the Diocese of Bridgeport Dr Steven Cheeseman spent the morning visiting classrooms and speaking with students. The morning started with prayer, bagels, and conversation when St Rose of Lima School Principal Dr Bardhyl Gjoka, Dean of Student Life MaryJo Bokuniewicz, and St Rose middle school students welcomed Dr Cheeseman in the library.

Dr Cheeseman then visited classrooms, sat in on a kinetic energy lesson in the school’s Science Lab, and got a sneak peek of the school’s “A Christmas Celebration” art show, hosted later that night.

Two days later, the school’s eighth grade traveled to New York, N.Y., with Monsignor Robert Weiss, Dr Gjoka, and teacher Tanya Cicarelli. Prior to the pandemic visiting the city was an annual outing for the school’s eighth grade. This is the first year the tradition began again. The class started the day with a visit to and tour of St Patrick’s Cathedral, then saw the Radio City Music Hall show, and in the afternoon went ice skating, sightseeing, and shopping.

While the eighth graders were away the rest of the school had a pajama day and special viewings of The Polar Express.
