Family: My immediate family is myself and my son Connor William Ring, who has just joined the Navy.

Do you have any nicknames? No. People have tried, but Madelia doesn’t work well for too much.

Work: I have been at The Newtown Bee since November 2017. In January 2021 I became editor for Antiques and The Arts Weekly.

What do you like to do in your free time? Sleep (laughs).

Do you have a favorite podcast? Hometown Friends is my #1 listen. It’s run by someone I went to high school with. He talks about relationships with people you’ve been friends with since high school, or growing up. I also listen to Messy & Magnificent and Assembly Required, and sometimes also Mel Robbins.

What is your favorite genre of music? I listen to everything, though I really don’t like country. I’m currently listening to Medieval Christmas for the holidays.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given? Don’t be afraid to do something that scares you. Take risks. My father always said it builds character.

Favorite food? I couldn’t possibly say. I like everything.

Do you have any pet peeves? People who say they’ll do something and then don’t.

Favorite color? Navy blue.

What is your proudest accomplishment? I’m probably proudest of my son. He’s really tackled some adversity. He’s not been afraid to challenge himself. He’s thrown himself into things, totally unexpected. He joined the swimming team not knowing how to swim, so he could learn. He would go to swim meets knowing he was the worst swimmer, and still tried. Every meet was a new personal best. I’m really excited to see where he goes from here.

What is your favorite thing about Newtown? The people, hands down.

Do you have a personal credo? See above, under “best piece of advice ever given.” I try to live by what my father gave me as that advice.
