Elections Have Consequences XXI
To The Editor:
February is Black History month and the time when we celebrate our Presidents — notably, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. It is unlikely we will see this administration celebrating Black History as they are actively trying to whitewash or erase it from websites, libraries, schools, museums, and national parks, etc. Trump, in fact, let loose, posting a racist video of Barack and Michelle Obama, once again showing us that he has no character, he has no class, he has no idea how to act like a real president — certainly not one we want to celebrate.
This egomaniac loves to put his name on things. A $250 million renovation was completed on the Kennedy Center in 2019 — Trump adds his name and now it needs a new face lift and must be shut down? There could be another reason. Under Trump’s management it is now in debt and losing patrons and performers. Another Trump bankruptcy?
He is holding the funding for the NY-NJ tunnel hostage to try to get Penn Central Station and Dulles Airport renamed after himself. He has installed large banners of his image on government buildings and has proposed a new class of naval vessels called the ‘Trump-class’ battleships. Not sure if they will be nuclear powered or coal powered.
Trump is no George Washington, he is no Abraham Lincoln, he is no Barack Obama. He is currently trying to rob “we the taxpayers” of $10 billion because a former employee of the IRS leaked some of his tax documents. Let’s not forget that he is the only candidate in recent history who refused to release these documents voluntarily. As far as presidential rankings go, Washington will probably always be ranked number one and Trump has solidified his last place position for all time.
We are in the second month of the second year of the second term of Trump. He is still whining about losing in 2020 and is needlessly sowing doubt about the security of the upcoming elections — threatening our very democracy. Our best hope of stopping this march towards fascism is to flip control of the US House and Senate. It is also important to maintain Democratic control in our state, so we don’t have to worry about our government surrendering our rights to Trump as Republican controlled states are doing. There are 263 days till the mid-term elections — there are real consequences.

Hey Kath,
Name a single right that is being threatened….
Yawn
Voting Rights – Ct. is one of 24 states being sued by the DOJ for not turning over our statewide voter registration lists including driver’s license and social security numbers.
Considering showing proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections is an 80/20 issue. Also, explain why you would be against showing ID to vote?
Just curious, if you entered a foreign country illegally, would you expect to be able to vote in that foreign countries elections?
I was talking about the state being forced to turn over our voter data files to the federal government. Last I checked States are in charge of elections. I show my license every time I vote. There is no evidence of wide scale nton-citizens voting in this country. The Heritage Foundation looked into this and could not find a problem. If the so-called Save Voting law were to be passed, I, as a woman who changed my name when I got married, would have to go through additional work to prove who I am because my name no longer matches what was on my birth certificate.
A birth certificate is a permanent document that doesn’t change…your marriage license/certificate is proof of a name change and used to confirm changing your driver’s license, SS card, Passport, etc.
You keep ignoring the point I am trying to make and that is the fact that the state is being sued for not turning over our voter data base – this has nothing to do with voter ID. Why does the Trump administration think they have a right to this information which includes SSNs and driver license information. States run their own elections and count their own votes. Some republican controlled states have already turned over their data and others plan to.
If “Elections Have Consequences XXI” really is installment #21 in this series, I’m impressed by the persistence — but at some point it starts to feel like we’re just re-printing the same national rant on a weekly schedule rather than contributing anything new or local.
For anyone wondering “how much paper” this series has taken up, at 21 installments, that is on the order of 23,500 printed newspaper pages devoted to the series — roughly an acre of paper surface once you multiply it out.
I support freedom of speech, but considering this diatribe likely costs our local bee $200 – $300 to print at the very least lets hope Kathy is a subscriber.
If we’re going to spend that much ink, I’d love to see more local facts, specifics, and actionable points — not just another round of national venting.
I am indeed a subscriber. That was indeed no. 21 and there will be more. The same number of pages would have been printed – with or without my contribution. Thanks for reading them.
I guess elections have consequences…
Ensuring that documented American citizens are the only people voting in elections is one of them.
As you like to say, elections have consequences.
Ensuring that American citizens are the only people voting in federal elections is one of them.
