Anne E. Killian, 96, wife of the late Stanley Killian, formerly of 20 South Main Street, Newtown, died January 6 at Crescent Manor Nursing Home, Waterbury.
Mrs Killian is survived by a daughter, Mary Anne Sampley of Newtown.
Mrs Killian was born in Bridgeport, June 5, 1904, a daughter of the late Dennis and Mary (White) Kelly. During WWII, she held a position with the American Red Cross Motor Corps. She sang soprano with the Bridgeport Oratorio Society and sang a major role in the opera Aida at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
For many years, Mrs Killian was an avid antiques dealer. She was a lady auctioneer and held many auctions at her barn located in Stratford.
A longtime resident of Newtown, Mrs Killian was a member of the Republican Town Committee for over 50 years. She was also a longtime member of the Newtown Zoning Board of Appeals. Mrs Killian had been a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.
Mrs Killian is also survived by two sons, John D. Killian of Los Angeles, Calif., and Joseph E. Killian of New Braunfels, Texas; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Trinity Episcopal Church on January 10 with the Rev Kathleen Adams-Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in Newtown Village Cemetery in the spring.
