Brandon's Story, From His Mom's Perspective
To The Editor:
My name is Tammey Moore, and my son Brandon is running for State Representative in Newtown. Am I biased? Of course. But if you asked Brandon if I’ve given him honest feedback throughout his life, he would say “100%.” That is what I want to do here. I want to tell you who Brandon is, because who he is at his core is what matters most.
Brandon did not grow up in an affluent family. His father was a carpenter, and I worked in accounting and financial reporting at an insurance company. We built our homes ourselves, shared dinner together, and spent weekends outdoors as a family. We have no military or political legacy. Brandon has truly created his own path.
I remember the conversation we had when he told me he wanted to attend West Point. He spoke with a level of conviction that every parent hopes to see in their child. He understood what it meant to commit himself to something bigger than himself. That decision was not about prestige. It was about service. From that moment on, everything he has done has reflected that same sense of purpose.
Yes, Brandon served as an attack helicopter pilot in Afghanistan, earned a Bronze Star, and graduated from Harvard. But what matters most is how he has lived his life. From starting a neighborhood camping club at ten years old to leading soldiers in the most demanding environments, he has always brought people together and taken responsibility seriously.
Brandon’s integrity, compassion, and work ethic define him. I am so proud of my son, and I know how proud you’ll be too if he represents you in Hartford.
But no matter where he ends up, I’ll never stop reminding him to call his mom every day to check in!

Congratulations on raising a wonderful Harvard grad who has served his country well. My son is a Harvard Law School graduate and that was not an easy accomplishment, as you know. He was Cornell before that. My brother was a paratrooper and my uncles served in the military, as well. In segregated troops, but they were also so proud to serve. I am so grateful to your beautiful and brilliant child. I am grateful to anyone that takes on the difficult task of representing an entire community. It is not at all an easy task. In my 64 years, I have worked with some incredible community leaders and elected officials, on so many levels. I was an administrative law judge, a judge’s court attorney, a managing partner, a hospital administrator etc. Community record of service and loyalty and experience is so important at all levels. I know that with more years of experience in the Newtown community your Brandon hopes to represent, he will have enough experience under his belt that he will be a great advocate for Newtown. I also know that at this time, Michelle Ku has that experience, record and knowledge and she will be an incredible State Representative and any truly committed additional nominee will work with Michelle Ku to help her do what all need done. They would work very well together and many of us hope that is what happens. Congratulations again, on a job well done.
