Lifeskills Program For People With Diabetes

BRIDGEPORT — “Lifeskills,” and educational program for people with diabetes, is being offered by St Vincent’s Medical Center in a series of four consecutive two-hour classes.

The afternoon session will run from 1 to 3 pm beginning on January 18 and will be held at Westfield Shoppingtown Trumbull. Two evening session swill run from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, with the first evening session beginning on March 15, and held at the medical center, while the second evening session begins on April 30 at a location to be announced.

Lifeskills helps people with diabetes become self-sufficient in the daily management of their disease. The course presents information and teaches skills to improve quality of life and help people with diabetes avoid many of the complications commonly associated with the disease. Controlling diabetes is the key to preventing or reducing complications.

The program will include lectures, discussion, audiovisuals, and a personal workbook.

The instructors for the program are diabetes educator Sally O’Toole, RN and nutrition educator, and registered dietitian Jane Hackett, RD.

The fee of $30 includes a personal workbook. Financial assistance is available.
