Children’s Programs

Story Hour Registration: Registration for story hour will take place Tuesday, February 16, through Monday, February 26, in the children’s department. Classes for 2 year olds and their caregivers will take place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 10-10:30.

Story times for 3-5 year olds will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 1 to 1:45 and on Thursday morning from 11 to 11:45. Children must be 2 or 3 years of age by February 29 when the seven-week session begins. Registration forms will be available on February 16. No phone registrations will be accepted.

Author Visit:      Award-winning children’s author Jane Yolen will visit the library on Sunday, March 4, at 2 pm in the meeting room. Ms Yolen is the author of hundreds of books, including the Caldecott winner Owl Moon. Following the program she will be signing copies of some of her most popular titles. Mark your calendars and don’t miss this unique opportunity to meet one of the most talented and prolific children’s authors in America.

Adult Programs

Yoga with Ricky Ayers: Ricky Ayers’ yoga class continues at the library on Thursdays from 4:45 to 6 pm in the new meeting room. Come join in some gentle stretching and relaxation exercises.

Internet Classes: Bob Brand will be conducting an intermediate Internet class on Saturday, January 13. The topic will be “Upgrading Software and Hardware.” The beginner’s class will talk about e-mail. Class will begin at 10 am in the meeting room. Please register for these classes at the main circulation desk or by calling the library at 426-4533. There is a $10 registration fee.

New Mystery Book Discussion: Due to the popularity of the Fall Mystery Book Discussion the library will be hosting another mystery series starting in January. This time around we will be discussing “The Landscape of the American Mystery.” Featured authors will be Carl Hiaasen, Lilian Jackson Braun, Tony Hillerman, and Marcia Talley, a relatively new mystery writer who will be joining us for the discussion of her first book. Dates and titles for the series will be Sick Puppy by Carl Hiaasen on January 23, The Cat who Sang for the Birds by Lilian Jackson Braun on February 13, Sing it to Her Bones by Marcia Talley on March 6, and a mystery by Tony Hillerman still to be determined, on March 27. Join fellow mystery lovers for lively discussion and fellowship. Several copies of these titles will be available. The books will be located in a special book discussion area, so please be sure to ask at the circulation desk if you have any trouble finding them. All discussions will take place in the Special Collections Room on the third floor at 7:30 pm.

 Hot Food for Cold Days: Nancy Crevier will be returning to the library on Friday, January 19, for a wonderful cooking class, “Winter Foods to Warm You Up.” The class will be from 11 am to 1 pm in the meeting room of the library. The class is limited to 12 so sign up early at the circulation desk or by calling 426-4533. A $12 supply fee will be charged.

A Creative Sampler: Ginger Humeston will be leading a five-part course on “Creativity” beginning in January on Thursdays at 9:30 am. The workshop will focus on ways to enrich ourselves through a variety of mediums. Topics include “Poetry with Liz Arneth” on January 18, “Meditation and Relaxation Techniques” with yoga teacher Rose Bergen on January 25, “The Creative Energy of Dreams” with Anita Hall on February 1, “Art and Your Name as a Line Drawing” with Judy Corrigan on February 8, and a book discussion led by Ginger Humeston on Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh on February 15. Come join us for a great and inspiring time. Please call the library to register for this program. Come to one or all five.

Booth Library Book Group: The Booth Library Book Group will be meeting on Thursday, January 18, at 7:30 pm to discuss Anita Shreve’s novel, The Weight of Water. New members are welcome to join this lively discussion at any time.

 

Holiday Hours

The library will be closed Monday, January 15, in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
