Cancer Society Plans Relay

WILTON — The American Cancer Society is holding a Relay for Life training session on Wednesday, January 24, from 5 to 9:15 pm at Wilton High School.

The meeting will provide an opportunity for interested persons to have dinner, meet other “relayers,” and learn how to help local community relays achieve success. This opportunity is for anyone interesting in organizing a team for the 2001 Relay for Life, a community-based event held in 3,000 towns across the country including six locations in Fairfield County.

Relay For Live University is a four-hour training sessions that discusses how to grow an existing relay (Bethel, New Milford, Wilton, Fairfield); organize teams for a new relay (Monroe and Stamford); fund-raise, get the word out, and volunteer in the survivorship/cancer control ceremonies and programs.

Relay for Life celebrates cancer survivors and honors those that have died. The event helps fund the American Cancer Society’s programs of research, education, advocacy, and service to cancer patients and their families. Relay for Life brings life-saving information on cancer prevention into the community and sends the message that people are surviving this disease.

To register for Relay for Life University or to get more information about any of these relays, call the American Cancer Society office at 800/889-3340, or e-mail nmiles@cancer.org.
