January Programs At IAIS For

Children And Adults

WASHINGTON — The Institute for American Indian Studies has unveiled its January 2001 schedule of programs.

The institute holds Native American spirituality study circle at 1:30 pm on the first Sunday of each month followed by a poetry reading and sharing circle at about 3 pm.

A drumming circle is held on the first Wednesday evening of each month from 7 to 9 pm. Registration is unnecessary for these three events.

Other special adult classes require prior registration and fees. Those to be held this January will include a drum making class on January 21 from noon to 5 pm and “Knowledge of the Winter Woods,” the second class in the new IAIS certificate program in native plant studies, on Sunday, January 28.

Both of these adult classes will be presented by E. Barrie Kavasch, an IAIS research associate. To reserve or for fee information, call 860/868-0518 extension 3.

Children’s classes will include “Winter Nature for 6-9 Year Olds” on Saturday, January 20, from 1 to 2:30 pm, and “Petroglyphs with Kids”  from noon to 2 pm on Saturday, January 27.

Reservations are required for children’s classes. Due to very limited enrollment, it is advised that parents call early. For additional information, call the education department at 860/868-0518 extension 3.

The museum is at 38 Curtis Road in Washington. Directions are available by calling the museum.
