WASHINGTON â The Institute for American Indian Studies has unveiled its January 2001 schedule of programs.
The institute holds Native American spirituality study circle at 1:30 pm on the first Sunday of each month followed by a poetry reading and sharing circle at about 3 pm.
A drumming circle is held on the first Wednesday evening of each month from 7 to 9 pm. Registration is unnecessary for these three events.
Other special adult classes require prior registration and fees. Those to be held this January will include a drum making class on January 21 from noon to 5 pm and âKnowledge of the Winter Woods,â the second class in the new IAIS certificate program in native plant studies, on Sunday, January 28.
Both of these adult classes will be presented by E. Barrie Kavasch, an IAIS research associate. To reserve or for fee information, call 860/868-0518 extension 3.
Childrenâs classes will include âWinter Nature for 6-9 Year Oldsâ on Saturday, January 20, from 1 to 2:30 pm, and âPetroglyphs with Kidsâ from noon to 2 pm on Saturday, January 27.
Reservations are required for childrenâs classes. Due to very limited enrollment, it is advised that parents call early. For additional information, call the education department at 860/868-0518 extension 3.
