Hermes Art Series To Present Allan Stone Documentary
REDDING â Most people have collected something during their lifetime, whether as a child or adult. Most are familiar with that sense of wanting to acquire objects to add to a collection, whatever it may be.
In the world of art, Allan Stone, the famed New York City gallery owner, was a âcompulsive collecting genius,â said his daughter, Olympia Stone. The renowned sculptor, woodcut artist and educator James Grashow will present Ms Stoneâs documentary, The Collector, at the Mark Twain Library on Friday, January 25. The program will begin at 7:30 pm.
The tribute, which was directed and produced by Ms Stone, reveals the life of her father spanning his 46 year career from 1950 to 2006. As described on the filmâs website, âviewers are taken on an extraordinary path inside one manâs obsessive submersion in art and its influence on the artists, art dealers and family members with whom he worked and lived.â
Admission is free. The library, on Route 53 at Round Hill Road, can be reached for more information and reservations by calling at 203-938-2545.
The event is part of the libraryâs Hermes Art Series. The series was created three years ago with a generous gift from Helen and Allen Hermes, long time benefactors of the Mark Twain Library. The Hermes Art Series was designed as a tribute to the ongoing artistic legacy of Redding, to honor the arts, past and present.
