Ron Kroha is a proud pet owner all over again.

The Newtown resident’s Springer Spaniels Hope and Rosey first made the news in 2013 when a YouTube video of their “Daddy’s Dinner Time Song” showed them spinning in unison, racing down a hallway awaiting their dinner. As they spun along, Mr Kroha sang a brief jingle about Hope and Rosey being “hungry, hungry girls.”

The video, uploaded six years ago and titled “Twisted Sisters, Hope and Rosey,” had logged more than 1.4 million views as of January 12. Most recently, the video caught the attention of The CW Network, and received nomination for a Performing Pups category on a CWTV special, World Dog Awards.

Residents can view the broadcast locally on New York WPIX and New York WCCT-TV. The segment, taped on January 9, will air during the presentation of World Dog Awards on Thursday, January 14, at 8 pm. The special will be hosted by George Lopez.

“We found out last minute,” Mr Kroha said on January 8. Hope and Rosey’s video is among several entered to win the category.

Although the network wanted to fly Mr Kroha and his partner Kevin Rose to the taping on Saturday, January 9, they were unable to make the trip with such short notice. The CW Network production team had not reached them in time, he said.

On Friday Mr Kroha said that voting for the video through the network website ended that night. Based on what the network contacts told him, he said, “My dogs, for some reason, stand a chance. The video is getting votes. It would have been nice to go, but we found out so late.”

January is a lucky month for him and his girls.

“I think, interestingly enough [the CWTV contest] is almost to the day” when he first posted the video on YouTube on January 23, 2010. Three years later it was viral, and Newtown Bee readers learned about the YoutTube sensations through an August 2013 story. Since then, Hope and Rosey have been given a Facebook page, which boasts over 1,000 followers who can view photos of them dressed for Halloween, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve.

Mr Kroha — along with Rosey, now 6, and Hope, 7 — will be among those tuned in Thursday night to learn the results of the competition.

The World Dog Awards will feature 19 categories of awards, from Top Video Game Dog and Most Dog-Like Animal to Most Amazing Journey, Happiest Reunion and Dog of The Year when it airs on January 14. A pair of English springer spaniels who call Newtown home are among those competing in the category of Performing Pups.
English springer spaniels Rosey, left, and Hope join Ron Kroha in August 2013. At that time, a video featuring the playful dogs was gaining popularity on YouTube. This week Mr Kroha will learn if that video was selected a winner in a CW Network contest, the result of which will air Thursday night.
