Roland C. Pratt, Jr

Roland C. Pratt, Jr, 70, husband of Lois M. (Butler) Pratt of Meadowbrook Road, Newtown, died January 13 at his home.

He was born in Swanzey, N.H., on June 12, 1930, a son of the late Roland C. and Violet V. (Tillman) Pratt. Mr Pratt served in the US Army from 1951 to 1954. He also served in the New Hampshire National Guard.

A Newtown resident since 1958, Mr Pratt was a self-employed builder. Beginning in 1960 until his retirement in 1983, Mr Pratt was a member of the United Fire Company of Botsford. He held a number of positions, including chief from 1973 to 1980, assistant chief from 1972 to 1973 and 1982 to 1983, and president from 1967 to 1972 and trustee from 1963 to 1966. He also served on a number of Building and Ways & Means Committees for the United Fire Company.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Robert L. Pratt of Patrick Springs, Vt., Ronald C. Pratt of Newtown, Joseph L. Pratt of Southbury and Russell C. Pratt of Newtown; one daughter, Barbara L. Ganger of Hamptonville, N.C.; one brother, Richard C. Pratt of Winchester, N.H.; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held January 16 in St John’s Episcopal Church, Sandy Hook, with the Rev William Padgett officiating. Burial will be in Newtown Village Cemetery in the spring.

The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, was in charge of arrangements.
