Martin Anthony O’Donnell, 73, passed away at home in Newtown, on January 11 surrounded by his loving family.

Martin was born in Charlestown, County Mayo, Ireland, the youngest child of Michael and Ellen O’Donnell. He moved to the United States with his family in 1986.

Martin was a life-long contractor and craftsman known for his incredible skills and work ethic. He enjoyed rugby, Gaelic football, working in his garden and a cuppa tea. Martin was a loving, loyal, committed family man who would do anything for his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sheilah, and his children as well as his siblings Sheila, Vincent and Edward.

He also leaves behind ten grandchildren who he loved and cherished very much.

The family would like to thank Regional Hospice for their caring and compassion in his final weeks.

Martin was very proud and supportive of his grandchildren’s involvement in marching band. His family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Newtown High School Band at nhsbandguard.com/Donate.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown on Wednesday, January 17, at 10:30 am. The services will also be livestreamed (strosechurch.com). Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, has charge of arrangements.
