Oil Paintings By Silverstein On View In Washington

WASHINGTON — An exhibit of oil paintings featuring dreamscapes by Karen C. Silverstein is on view at The Institute for American Indian Studies through March 31. “Circle of Dreams: Journey with Spirit Beings” presents views from the mind of the dream artist and healer.

Ms Silverstein is a “dreampainter” — she is part of a group of dreamers who are healers. This type of healing, which continues today, was first performed in most ancient civilizations. It is accomplished by the use of dream techniques and is used for healing oneself or others.

Ms Silverstein transfers the images of dreams onto canvas with oils paints and brush. She dreams and paints for insight and vision.

Her fine arts education is from Southern Seminary College in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, and she has been creative for more than 30 years, branching into fashion design, home furnishing design and her oil paintings.

Ms Silverstein’s primary focus is her painting. She expresses femininity, strength and life’s gentleness. She communicates her dream visions in soft pastel lights, signifying ancient truths woven with the “Circle of Mother Earth.”

An opening reception for the artist will be hosted by the museum on Sunday, February 4, from 2 to 4 pm. The exhibit is included with regular museum admission, which is $4 for adults.

Winter museum hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm; Sunday, noon to 5 pm. The museum is also closed during snow or icy weather. IAIS, at 38 Curtis Road, can be contacted at 860/868-0518 extension 3.
