Police said January 17 they have arrested a former Newtown man on child pornography charges.

Arrested on charges of first-degree and third-degree possession of child pornography is David Anderson, age 51.

Newtown police went to a Massachusetts prison on January 16 where they took Anderson into custody after he was discharged as a prisoner there. Police held Anderson on $150,000 bail overnight for an arraignment on the charges on July 17 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

The arrest warrant stems from an investigation which began in November 2012, after a complaint was made to Newtown police.

The investigation by Newtown detectives crossed state lines into Massachusetts and New York, police said. Anderson initially was arrested in Massachusetts and then served seven years in prison there, police said.

Anderson waived extradition to Connecticut to face additional charges stemming from incidents that allegedly occurred in Newtown, police said.

"Detectives did an excellent job working with other state agencies, conducting computer forensics, and putting a case together to put this predator away," said Newtown police spokesman Lieutenant Aaron Bahamonde.

"Our community is made safer when individuals such as Anderson are identified and taken out. Anderson is in a place where he can't victimize unsuspecting residents and is receiving the rehabilitation he needs," the lieutenant said.
