Future Of Barn Fire Investigation Unclear

It was unclear this week whether insurance investigators who are probing the cause of a fire which destroyed a large horse barn at Foxview Farm on Hundred Acres Road December 30 would be continuing their work to find a definitive cause for the blaze, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Bill Halstead.

Although the fire does not appear to be suspicious, “Nothing has been ruled out at this point,” Mr Halstead said Wednesday.

Insurance company investigators were considering whether to bring in heavy equipment to pick through the fire debris in searching for a specific cause of the blaze, according to Mr Halstead.

Fire Marshal George Lockwood has estimated the damage loss at well over $100,000.

Although fire investigators have found electrical wiring which led to the barn, they had not located the electrical control panel that was in the barn, according to the deputy fire marshal.

Besides the many hay bales which were kept in the barn, the building contained much sawdust, materials that fueled a towering fire which took about three hours to get under control.

The fire did not injure the barn’s eight horses, which were outside the barn when the afternoon fire call came in following a major snowstorm.
