Donate To Skate Fundraiser: Catch Your Skating Moves On Tape

The Donate To Skate campaign’s next fundraiser — scheduled for Friday, February 6 — invites video footage of skateboarders mid-air or slapping their boards across pavement prepping for a grab, grind or slide. Some could be running on pipes, and others pivoting off curbs, some working through a spin and flip, while new recruits observe veteran moves.

Campaign head Lori Capozziello is looking for videos saved to a DVD, and done in “good taste,” as requested on DonateToSkate.com. All videos will be assembled and played at the culmination of the contest on February 6, and will hit the big screen at Vertigo Skate Park, an indoor skating facility at 105 Grays Bridge Road in Brookfield (VertigoCT.com). Each video entry costs $12.

The website DonateToSkate.com outlines the rules:

*Video that is vulgar in any way will not be shown at the event. Videos already on You Tube or My Space may be entered in the contest, but must be burned onto a DVD.

*Get the DVD to Vertigo before February 6 or arrive before 5:45 pm the day of the contest.

*Teams can be up to five people, including the skater(s), the videographer, the editor, etc. All team members should be at the fundraiser.

*The video cannot run longer than five minutes.

*All videos must have a title handwritten on the DVD and list the team members.

*Photos are also accepted, and will be presented as a team project. Each photo entry is $8.

*Photos must be a minimum size of 4 by 6 inches. Larger sizes are also accepted. Attach photos to a colored piece of paper for a background. Construction paper will be available at the contest. Each photo must have a title and list the names of the team members on both the back of the photo and the front of the construction paper. Photos must be done in good taste.

*Bring the photo(s) the night of the contest. Participants may enter more than one photo and can choose different team members for each, but cannott exceed more than five team members per photo.

Each vote for the Video/Photo contest will cost $1. Each person voting can make up to ten votes per video/photo.

Winners will be announced the night of the contest. In case of a tie, the winner will be decided by a coin toss.

First place video and First place photo winners will each be awarded $25 cash each (up to five team members) and a Donate To Skate T-shirt.

Second place video and photo winners will each receive a coupon for a large pizza from My Place Restaurant in Newtown and a Donate To Skate T-shirt each.

Vertigo will also be giving out free passes to skate and other great prizes to the winners.

There will be a $5 admission charge at the door for everyone. For skaters this includes skate time at the end of the contest. Pizza and soda will be on sale, with all proceeds going to the Donate To Skate fundraising campaign. Donate To Skate T-shirts will be on sale for $12 each.
