Social Skills Class At NYFS

Newtown Youth & Family Services (NYFS) will begin offering a new class to children ages 5–9 who need a hand honing their social skills.

NYFS will begin offering Solve The Social Puzzle, a ten-session series to be facilitated by Adrienne Slater, LCSW, on Tuesday, February 7. The group will meet on Tuesdays from 4 to 5 pm, and registration is required by February 2. The group will promote an understanding of social skills for children in this age group, in a setting that will allow them to practice with their peers.

The class will cover improving basic interaction skills, sharing with others, understanding boundaries, anger management and conflict resolution, building and understanding empathy, working together as a team, creating and maintaining friendships, following rules, appropriate communication, active listening, building and improving self esteem, and fostering a sense of humor.

NYFS accepts most private insurance plans, including Medicaid and Husky. A sliding scale is available for those who do not have insurance, with fees ranging from $20 to $60 per session, based on household income and family size. Proof of income is required for the sliding scale.

Call NYFS at 203-270-4335 or 203-426-8103 for additional information or to register your child. Registration is required; walk-ins will not be allowed.

Newtown Youth & Family Services, Inc, is at 17 Church Hill Road.
