Newtown
Writing About Connecticut
The writing assignment was to write about a place in Connecticut for students in Ken Royalâs fourth grade class at Head Oâ Meadow School. Several students thought Newtown would be a neat place for people to learn about and possibly visit, while others wrote about the Hartford Civic Center, Putnam Park, Mystic Aquarium, Long Island Sound, the White Memorial, the Beardsley Zoo, and the Peabody Museum.

Have you ever wondered about Newtown, Connecticut? Well, this paper will tell you all about Newtown. One of the most important persons in Newtown was Mary Elizabeth Hawley. Ramâs Pasture
By Molly Murtha
As you drive down Route 25, youâll probably notice a beautiful patch of land called Ramâs Pasture. Ramâs Pasture was given its name when there were collective flocks of animals, and each town had a town shepherd.Â
Today, Ramâs pasture is about 2 acres in size. It also has a big pond that is about 100 feet by 200 feet. The pond has a stream running through it. At any time of the year, Ramâs Pasture is beautiful.
In the spring, at Ramâs Pasture, the town holds an annual kite flying contest. The person who gets their kite the highest will win. The winner gets his or her picture in The Newtown Bee, our town newspaper.
In the summer, you can have picnics and feed the geese on sunny days. Only in the summer wild flowers are surrounding it.
In the fall, you can take off in a hot air balloon on nice, calm fall nights. In the fall you can also enjoy the nice fall scenery. You can play, run around, and take walks in the fall at Ramâs Pasture.
In the winter, there is a Christmas tree lighting that they have every year. At the Christmas tree lighting they count down to light a tree that is about 100 feet tall, or maybe even taller than that. Right next to the tree there is a Santa Claus that gives out candy canes. In the winter, you can also go ice skating on the big pond I mentioned before.
So, if youâre driving through Newtown, or youâre visiting, check out to see if you can do any of the things I mentioned. It is a fun place to visit.
