A Deer Left To Suffer

To the Editor:

To the big brave hunter who shot a deer in my neighborhood approximately two weeks ago and left it to wander around, bleeding, in pain, and with your arrow still in him for the neighborhood children and others (including myself) to see. He came right to my door last week as if asking for help. I fed him some cracked corn and made several calls to try and find help, but to no avail. I learned today, January 22, 2001, that he died in one of my neighbors’ yard.

What gives you the right to do this? Where is your compassion? I thought “responsible” hunters track the animals that they have shot to make sure they do not wander around and suffer the way this deer did. I shudder to think how you treat the people in your life. If you do happen to read this letter, I hope it gives you more than one sleepless night. Believe me, I have had several sleepless nights just thinking of this entire situation.
