An Interview With Mrs Annett
An Interview With Mrs Annett
By Meghan Barbour
There is a very special person at Hawley School. She is always helpful to students and staff. She is kind and she always has a smile when you walk through her door. This special person is Mrs Annett, our school nurse.
I asked her why she wanted to become a nurse. She wanted to become a nurse because she likes to help people. When Mrs Annett was in eighth grade she volunteered to help out in the hospital. Mrs Annett said she was a Navy nurse for two years in Portsmouth, Virginia and she also did office work. After that Mrs Annett worked at a pediatric clinic at Danbury Hospital. Then she worked at Ashlar, a nursing home here in Newtown.
Then I asked her how long she has been a nurse at Hawley School.
âTwenty years,â Mrs Annett told me.
She further told me that she had never been a school nurse before working at Hawley. She also said that a nurse must have a license in the state in which you work. Mrs Annett has handled emergencies, mostly broken bones. If someone breaks a bone, an ambulance is called to take the student to the hospital.
Mrs Annett hands out 100 Band-Aids a week. If a student is hurt on the field, Mrs Annett uses a wheelchair to transport the injured student back into the school. As for flu shots, Mrs Annett will give them to the staff if they want them, but not to the students.
When we finished our interview Mrs Annett told me that she likes being a nurse because she likes working with people, especially children. As for this reporter, Iâd like to thank Mrs Annett for the very important job she does to keep all of us at Hawley School both healthy and safe.
