Stories Of African-American Folklore
Stories Of African-American Folklore
EASTON â The Friends of the Easton Public Library invite children, parents, seniors and families to celebrate February as Black History Month with Amir Rashidd. A master storyteller, Mr Rashidd will present âStories of African-American Folkloreâ at Easton Public Library Community Room on Saturday, February 3, at 2 pm. The program is suitable for ages 8 to 80.
A griot, author and teacher, Mr Rashidd has captivated audiences for more than 25 years. Mr Rashidd is an âourstorian.â His stories are rich in the tradition of African-American folklore.
He tells traditional stories form the motherland, as well as many âmojoâ tales of his own spinning, performing with talking drum and rattle.
If his name sounds familiar it could be because he produces a weekly radio program on WPKN in Bridgeport and he has also appeared on many local access television programs. Mr Rashidd also conducts workshops and residence programs, and freelances as a cultural consultant.
Easton Library is at 691 Morehouse Road, at the corner of Center Street. Call the library at 261-0134 for additional information.
