The Newtown Bike & Trails Committee, in conjunction with Newtown Parks & Recreation, is planning a public event in March.

The Town committee is inviting the public to visit its open house planned for Sunday, March 8. It will run from 11 am until 1 pm at Newtown Community Center, 8 Simpson Street.

Members of the committee will be on hand to discuss new trails, and plans to improve trails in town.

An ongoing symposium will also share information on a trail mapping initiative GIS, the bike lending program launched last year at the community center that loans bicycles for children to use on Fairfield Hills trails, a bike friendly community initiative, and bike repair clinics.

Topics to be covered will also include volunteer opportunities such as the committee’s Trail Ambassador Program, Connecticut Trail Ambassador Program, Trail Maintenance Crew, Friends of Newtown Trails Society, and spring special events being planned.

Registration is not needed for the ongoing drop-in event, but additional information is available by contact Bike & Trails Committee Chair Brid Craddock at 203-442-0758 or visiting newtown-ct.gov/bike-trails-committee.

The Town of Newtown Bike & Trails Committee, in conjunction with Newtown Parks & Recreation, is planning its largest public event to date.
