Huntingtown MVA

Police report motorist Mary J. Dedufour, 38, of Monroe, who was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck, had stopped for a traffic flagger in the northbound travel lane of Huntingtown Road for a public utility work project about 11 am January 21.

Northbound motorist Kerri S. Morris, 34, of Monroe, who was driving a 1994 Saturn SL-2, then stopped behind the pickup truck, police said.

To allow room for oncoming traffic to pass, Dedufour backed up, inadvertently striking the Saturn, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Dedufour a written warning for unsafe backing.

MV Charges

Police charged Robert J. Uszakiewicz, 43, of Beacon Falls January 26 with misuse of a motor vehicle marker plate and a theft of a motor vehicle marker plate. Police released Uszakiewicz on a promise to appear February 8 in Danbury Superior Court to answer to the charges.

Safe Recovered

United Fire Company of Botsford firefighters helped police January 15 recover a safe from a pond at the D’Addario Sand and Stone Company, Inc, gravel mine on Button Shop Road.

A passerby had noticed the safe sticking out of the water and reported it to police, prompting the recovery effort, police said.

The safe, which had been opened, had been stolen from a Monroe address the day before, police said. Personal papers were recovered, police said.

Newtown and Monroe police are investigating the theft of the safe in connection with a string of burglaries in the two towns.
