A Wonderful Gift To All
A Wonderful Gift To All
To the Editor:
As a young boy growing up in the White Hills section of Shelton, I was lucky enough to be employed as a farm hand for Rudy Hudak, the dairy farmer who owned the Shelton Dairy. One of the highlights of working there was to hear the call that âweâre going to Wassermanâsâ to round up any number of heifers that Rudy kept there on part of Dr and Mrs Wassermanâ s property. Heifers are cows that have yet to give birth, and therefore not producing milk yet. The long drive into Newtown (or so it seemed) from White Hills would be rewarded with three or four of us let loose to not only find the young heifers in the vast property but then chase them down, capture them and bring them into the trailer we would bring along. Great fun for a 14-year-old!
I was always taken with the great natural beauty of the property and the care the Wassermans took in maintaining it. Even the sculptures placed randomly around the property were a kick to look at, even if I didnât understand them. The view from the far side of the pond, up the hill (or mountain, as it seemed then) was breathtaking and I can still visualize it in my mind 30 years later.
How happy I was to hear that Mrs Wasserman is leaving it to posterity for all to enjoy. I for one look forward to exploring this beautiful place again, only this time with my own family to make new memories to go along with my childhood ones.
Thank you, Mrs Wasserman, for this wonderful gift to all of us!
