Borst Insults ‘Those People’

To the Editor:

First Selectman Borst spoke at the Commission on Aging meeting Monday night. He continually addressed the seniors in attendance as “you people” and “those people.” It was as if we were criminals who just robbed the first national bank! Borst was rude and condescending in his tone. After numerous heckling at us by Borst with his “you people,” he was finally asked by one senior to apologize for calling the seniors “you people,” but he wouldn’t.

What the first selectman fails to remember is…that “those people” are mothers and fathers and grandparents…“those people” have worked a lifetime putting their children through school and meals on the table…“those people” are veterans of war…“those people” take pride in their homes and their community. “Those people” pay taxes in Newtown. “Those people” are the proud senior citizens of Newtown…and, “those people” would like the respect that they have earned and deserve!

And in case you may have forgotten…you are one of “those people”!
