Charter Revisions Published This Week

The Town of Newtown has published the text of the town’s current charter, along with corresponding proposed revisions, as a legal notice in this week’s edition of  The Newtown Bee and The Bee Extra. It is expected that a charter revision vote will be a part of 2008-2009 budget referendum vote on April 22.

The proposed charter revisions are also available to the public at the town clerk’s office in Edmond Town Hall during normal business hours.

Legislative Council Chair William Rodgers said the document reflects changes proposed which the council approved.

“I believe this revision is a product worthy of support,” he said. “The Charter Revision Commission worked hard on this project.”

Mr Rodgers said the public will render the ultimate decision on whether or not to accept the changes. He said subject to consultation with the town attorney, Mr Rodgers expects the revision issue on the April ballot to be represented by a single up or down question, as opposed to having revisions broken out into several parts.

Mr Rodgers believes having the charter revision on the same day as the budget referendum will greatly enhance turnout at the polls.
