Nominations Being Accepted For Teacher Of The Year

MERIDEN — The Teachers’ Insurance Plan, a car insurance program exclusively for members of the educational community, is now accepting applications for the 2007-08 Teacher of the Year (TOTY) award.

Teachers, students, and parents can nominate any of the state’s accredited teachers. Nomination forms are available at teachers.com/toty; the deadline is April 30. The form must include an essay of 250 or less explain why a particular teacher should be named Teacher of the Year.

Nominees will be judged on their ability to motivate students, their special talents, and their contribution to their school, students, or educational community. The winning teacher will receive a $1,000 prize, and a $500 grant for his or her school.

The Connecticut state winner will also be eligible to win the National TOTY Award, and the national award includes a special recognition and a $2,500 travel certificate. Winners will be announced in September.
