Intersection Collision

At about 3:27 pm on January 23, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road, police report.

In that incident, a 2014 Cadillac ATS auto driven by Barbara Brennan, 78, of Sandy Hook, struck a 2015 Mercedes-Benz E-350 auto driven by Annmarie Brennan, 54, of Sandy Hook, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Barbara Brennan for following too closely.

Honda Hits Tree

Motorist Darin Knapp, 56, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2009 Honda Civic northward on Gelding Hill Road, near Orange Pippin Road, at about 3:31 pm on January 23, when the auto drove across the road's center line and then went off the left road shoulder, striking a tree head-on, police said.

Knapp was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of possible injuries, police said. Police report they verbally warned Knapp for making a restricted turn.

Church Hill Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Church Hill Road, near Commerce Road, about 8:14 am on January 24, according to police.

Motorist Shannon Will, 47, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2006 Jeep Wrangler SUV westward on Church Hill Road in a straight-through lane, as motorist Linda Hill, 51, of Woodbury was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima westward in a left-turn-only lane, police said.

The Jeep made an unsafe lane change and then struck the Nissan, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Will for making a restricted turn.

Fugitive From Justice

Police report that on January 26, they arrested Satish Gurjar, 50, of 2 Thomas Circle, Sandy Hook, on a warrant, charging him with being a fugitive from justice. Police said that the arrest stems from a past incident in Brockton, Mass.

Police held Gurjar on $75,000 bail for a January 27 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury. Gurjar did not enter a plea to the charge in court. He was then released on $75,000 bail for a February 24 court appearance concerning the extradition proceeding.

Hawleyville Accident

Police said motorist Lazlo Brna, 50, of Bridgeport was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango SUV eastward on Mt Pleasant Road at about 4:49 pm on January 26, as motorist Hannah Tamburino, 17, of Bethel, who was driving a 2004 Honda Accord, was attempting to exit a commercial parking lot at 117 Mt Pleasant Road.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Tamburino an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Walnut Tree Hill Road

Motorist Jacquelyn Horkachuck, 55, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder SUV at about 10:36 am on January 27, stopped at a stop sign on Patriot Ridge Road at its intersection with Walnut Tree Hill Road, police said.

At that time, motorist David Clark, 79, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Golf auto westward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, police said. As Horkachuck attempted to enter Walnut Tree Hill Road, the two vehicles collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Horkachuck an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Evading Responsibility

Police report a two-vehicle accident at about 2:21 am on January 28 in the vicinity of Fairfield Hills, in which one of the motorists drove away after striking the other vehicle.

Police said that a motorist driving a 2005 Subaru Legacy was traveling eastward on Mile Hill Road when a light-colored Chevrolet sedan struck the rear end of the Subaru, after which the Chevrolet driver passed the Subaru and then entered the Exit 11 interchange of Interstate 84. The Subaru driver was uninjured.

The Chevrolet likely has a damaged front-end. Police are seeking information on the identity of the Chevrolet driver and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Kia vs Mailboxes

Motorist Madison Negri, 20, of Brookfield, was driving a 2015 Kia Forte auto northward on Hawleyville Road, just south of its intersection with North Ridge Drive, about 6:10 pm on January 30, when the Kia drove straight on a left curve in the road and then struck two curbside mailboxes along the right road shoulder, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said Negri told them that she fell asleep at the wheel. Police said they issued Negri a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Six Motor Vehicle Charges

Police report that early on the afternoon of February 1, motorist Ronald Martens, 52, of Newtown, who was driving a 2008 BMW 528-XI sedan southward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Mile Hill Road, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Ebony Brown, 22, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2002 Buick Century sedan.

After the collision, Brown drove away from the scene and was then located on South main Street attempting to drive out of town, police said.

Police said they charged Brown with evading responsibility, driving while using a handheld device, distracted driving, unsafe passing, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, and driving without a license.

Police released Brown on $250 bail for a February 15 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Pontiac vs Subaru

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Blue Spruce Drive and Bears Hill Road about 4:07 pm on February 1.

The collision involved motorist Nicholas Magoulas, 84 of Monroe, who was driving a 2005 Pontiac G-6 auto, and motorist Tanya Capeci, 54, of Newtown, who was driving a 2002 Subaru Outback station wagon, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Magoulas an infraction for making a restricted turn.
