Rasmussen Berglund

Lifelong Newtown Resident

Eunice Rasmussen Berglund, 86, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, January 19. She was the beloved wife of Harold R. Berglund. A lifelong resident of Newtown, she was born in Botsford, April 17, 1925, to Mayla (Botsford) and George Rasmussen.

She graduated from Hawley High School in 1943. During her school years she was a member of the Girl Scouts, cheerleading squad, glee club, and Young People’s Club. She also played on the basketball team and enjoyed dance school.

Mrs Berglund attended the Elm City Beauty Academy in New Haven, and was employed at the Beauty Salon of Newtown following her graduation.

Her hobbies and interests included knitting, piano playing, bowling, and following the UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams. The seashore was her favorite place to vacation.

She and her husband, “Bergie,” enjoyed the times they spent at their second residence in the Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk, N.C.

Her greatest joys and proudest roles were that of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Besides her husband of 64 years, she is survived and will be remembered daily by her three children and their spouses, Jo-Ann and Mark Wigglesworth of Goshen, Bonnie and George McLean of Gaylordsville, and Ricky and Gail Berglund of Goshen. She will also be remembered by her brother Harvey Rasmussen, and his wife Leota, of Newtown; and her sister-in-law, Fansion Juenemmann of Colorado. She will always be missed and loved by her seven grandchildren; her great-grandson; and her numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and William Kamas of Newtown; and her brother, Carl Rasmussen of Colorado.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4, at 2 pm, at The Stepney Baptist Church, 423 Main Street, Monroe. There will be no calling hours.
