Keep Those Hydrants Clear

Although snowfall has been at a minimum this year, when it occurs the fire marshal’s office is reminding residents that the town’s volunteer fire companies need snow removal assistance during the winter months to provide clear access to pressurized fire hydrants, dry fire hydrants, and underground water storage tanks, all of which are used in firefighting.

The fire marshal asks that after snowfalls, residents and businesses either plow out or shovel out the areas near those devices to provide access to them when they are needed for firefighting.

Such snow clearance is required for devices located in front of or on the properties of businesses and residences, according to the fire marshal.

Also, the fire marshal reminds businesses that the second exits or the stair exits of businesses must be cleared of snow and ice after a snowfall.
