‘Stone Soup’ To Feature Works By Three Artists,

February 10-March 17 At The FrameWorks Gallery

The FrameWorks Gallery at Koenig FrameWorks in Newtown is pleased to announce the newly created partnership with Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance (HVCA), a regional arts agency that provides services to creative resources in the Housatonic municipalities of Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, Newtown, New Milford, Ridgefield, Redding and Sherman. In conjunction with the HVCA partnership, The FrameWorks Gallery will be hosting periodic art shows with HVCA members as part of HVCA’s Accessible Art 2012.

“Our partnership with FrameWorks is important,” says Lisa Scails, executive director of HVCA. “It helps to create a more vibrant arts community and that’s good for everyone.”

The first show of this partnership will be “Stone Soup,” a collaboration of three highly talented and diverse artists: Judith Secco, Mally DeSomma and Tom Nackid. Each artist contributes their individual flair, the result of which produces an interpretative take of the famed folk story bearing its name.

The work of Judith Secco is a unique, interpretative, at times surreal, take on photography. Ms Secco’s work, collected by many, uses laters, textures and composites of multiple images to transform an original image into exactly what the artist envisions.

“It’s more than shooting the image, it’s turning the image into what I want to see,” says the artist, who is the recipient of numerous awards and is routinely represented in Fine Line Group Art Gallery in Woodbury.

Mally DeSomma, whose art career spans over 35 years, forever searches for an interesting subject to capture and considers herself lucky to be able to do the things she loves the most, which is to paint and teach. For over 15 years Ms DeSomma has taught pastels, acrylics, and oils at Artsplace, a private art school in Cheshire, where she is now one of its anchor teachers.

She has also taught oils and pastels at the University of Connecticut Waterbury campus, she serves on the board of Fine Line Art Gallery, and is a signature member of the Connecticut Pastel Society. Since 2008 she has served as chairperson of CPS’s national juried art show, “Renaissance in Pastel,” presented at The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury.

Ms DeSomma has also received numerous commissions for figures, animals, and still life, has designed specialty cards for businesses and individuals, and has done artwork for catalog companies.

Graphic designer, illustrator and painter Tom Nackid specializes in science fiction and fantasy illustration. While this work is predominately digital, Mr Nackid offsets these digital efforts by painting with oils and acrylics when time allows. He tries to focus on design, shape and texture in his paintings and, true to his science fiction and fantasy roots, treats even the most mundane subjects in a slightly fantastic and surreal manner.

The FrameWorks Gallery (Koenig FrameWorks) is a picture framing and art gallery at 97 Main Street (Route 25) in Newtown.

“While its core business is picture framing, FrameWorks maintains an inherent desire and passion to participate in the support, cultivation and promotion of the Arts,” said FrameWorks owner Carper Sabatino. “Fine art and photography shows are routinely held in its gallery open to artists with varying degrees of experience and form. This practice will continue and be expanded in the current year and foreseeable future. This is my commitment.”

The gallery and framing can be reached by calling 203-270-1887. Additional information is also available online, at www.KoenigFrameWorks.com.

The Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance (HVCA) aims to increase the network, collaboration, and conversation within the arts, historical, and cultural community as well as among business and other interest groups to promote economic development.
