Three Injured In Garner Prison Incident

State police report that two correction officers and an inmate at Garner Correctional Institution were injured following a violent incident at the high-security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road at about 9:30 am on Sunday, January 29.

Inmate David Bell, 25, assaulted one correction officer by striking him with a closed fist to the face, according to state police. Two correction officers then attempted to restrain Bell and a struggle ensued, state police said.

Bell eventually was secured and placed in handcuffs, state police said.

As a result of the incident, one correction officer received injuries to his face and legs, and another correction officer received an injured hand and legs, state police said.

Correction officers Robert Marquis and Michael Pavia were treated for their injuries at Danbury Hospital and then released, according to state police.

Bell received a hea d injury in the incident and was transported to the UConn Medical Center in Farmington for treatment, state police said.

State police said that an arrest warrant will be sought against Bell on charges including first-degree assault on a correction employee, interfering with an officer, and disorderly conduct. The case is under investigation.

Bell is serving an 85-year sentence in Garner on a murder conviction.
