Engrossing & Entertaining Miller Work Next For Stray Kats Theatre Company

The Stray Kats Theatre Company, a not-for-profit, professional theatre company, has announced that the third offering in its inaugural season will be the contemporary classic by Arthur Miller, The Price. The reading will begin at 7:30 pm and will take place in The Alexandria Room of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown.

(Please note this is a change from the original schedule of presenting Miller’s work in March. The previously announced “new work” will now be In The Middle of Nowhere, recently penned by the Westport playwright Kent R. Brown.)

A distinctively American playwright, Miller was a prominent figure in American theatre, writing dramas that include plays such as All My Sons, A View From the Bridge and The Crucible.

The Price is the story of estranged brothers brought together to sell the furniture of their long dead father to an incredibly aged, incredibly wise antiques dealer, who has come out of retirement (“You must have looked up my name in a very old telephone book” he tells them) to give a price for the furniture.

Upon its opening in 1968, Clive Barnes wrote for The New York Times: The Price is one of the most engrossing and entertaining plays that Miller has ever written. It is superbly, even flamboyantly, theatrical… complying with the classic unities of time, place and action, and Miller holds the interest with the skill of a born story-teller.”

The cast of The Price, appearing courtesy of Actors Equity Association (and subject to change), will include Kate Katcher and Don Striano of Newtown, David Rogers of Westport, and William Jess Russell of Danbury.

The evening will include a talk-back with the company, coffee and dessert by Andrea’s Pastry Shop of Newtown, which specializes in Italian pastries, cakes, breads and cookies.

Tickets are $25, and are available at StrayKatsTheatreCompany.org or by calling 203-514-2221. Additional information is available by emailing Ms Katcher at info@straykatstheatrecompany.org or visiting StrayKatsTheatreCompany.org.
