The newest version of Annie, a film that was released in December, opened this week at Edmond Town Hall Theatre. The film continues daily through Sunday, February 8.

On Saturday and Sunday, February 7-8, all screenings of the family friendly musical are being offered free of charge. Ingersoll Auto of Danbury has announced it will sponsor all seven screenings planned for the two days. The auto dealership, which is owned by Todd Ingersoll of Newtown, has offered at least one free movie screening each month at the theater located within the historic building at 45 Main Street since January 2013.

Annie (2014) features Jamie Foxx, Quvenzhané Wallis, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale and Cameron Diaz.

In the new version, Annie (Wallis) has led a hard-knock life with her calculating foster mother, Miss Hannigan (Diaz). All that changes when hard-nosed billionaire and mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Foxx) takes her in on the recommendation of his advisers (Byrne and Cannavale). Stacks believes that he is Annie’s guardian angel, but the plucky youngster’s confidence and sunny outlook may mean that Annie will save Will instead.

Young Miss Wallis was nominated for a Golden Globe, for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical) for her work in this film. Greg Kurstin, Sia, and Will Gluck , who wrote “Opportunity” for the film, shared a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song.

The film is rated PG for some mild language and rude humor. It has a running time of one hour, 58 minutes.

Evening screenings are planned for Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday at 7; Friday at 9 pm only, and Saturday at 7 and 9:10. Matinees are planned for Saturday and Sunday at 1 and 4 pm.

Regular tickets are $2 per person.

Ingersoll Auto is planning to also sponsor free Saturday Movie Nights on March 14, April 11, May 9, June 20, July 11, August 8, September 19, October 10, November 14, and December 12. Titles will be announced each month, and additional dates may be added during the year.

The public has seven opportunities to see Annie for free over the weekend of February 7-8, thanks to Ingersoll Auto of Danbury.
