Occupation: I’m retired from Pitney Bowes in Stamford after 30 years. I was a production planner and retired as a buyer planner. Now I’m a personal income tax preparer, working from home.

Family: My wife, Aggie, and I have been married nearly 43 years. We have two daughters. Christine is in Pennsylvania. She’s married to Steven, and they have two children, Ashley, 12, and Rianna, 7. Karen is in Port Chester, N.Y., and married to Ricky. They have two girls, Jenna, who is 4, and Karah, who is 2 years old.

Pets: No pets now. We had a dog years ago, but right now it would be hard to make that commitment to a pet, if we want to go away.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We’ve lived here for seven years. We moved here from Port Chester, N.Y.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m a volunteer with the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, and with the Brooksville Engine and Hose Company in Port Chester. I have 45 years in down there. I go to three or four meetings a year and help with special events. I like gardening, flowers and shrubbery around the home, and usually have four or five tomato plants out back, too.

Do you have a favorite book? I haven’t done a lot of reading lately, but the last book I read was Let’s Roll! by Lisa Beamer. Her husband was Todd Beamer and he was on Flight 93 that went down in Pennsylvania on 9/11. It’s a very good book.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We like New England. We’ve gone to Mystic and Essex. We took the train and boat ride in Essex. It was very enjoyable.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I would say the cost of living and the people. We came from Westchester County where the cost of living has gone sky-high. My wife saw an ad in the White Plains Journal News for Walnut Tree Village a few years back and we came to look. I didn’t like the idea of a condo at first, but when I saw the ranch condo, I was sold on it. It’s very pleasant here in Newtown.

Who do you most admire? Probably my elementary school teachers, for giving me the background education I needed to go on and graduate from Iona College.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Be nice to others. That way, you’re treated the same way, hopefully.

What do you most cherish? My wife. Being a fireman and very active, you never knew when a call would come in and I’d run. I was always running out to help other people and missing dinners and family reunions. She always understood where I was coming from. Then we moved up here, and I started it all over again with the Sandy Hook fire company.
