George W. DeMott

George W. DeMott, 78, of Uncasville died peacefully February 2 at his home. On January 7, 1937, he was born in Passaic, N.J., and was the son of the late Hazel (Barthelmess) and Elwood DeMott. He was the loving husband of Patricia (Moran-Sabatelli) DeMott. They were married November 9, 1968, in Trumbull, and recently celebrated their 46th anniversary.

In addition to his wife, two sons, Curt DeMott, and wife Eileen, of Sandy Hook, and Glenn DeMott, and fiancée Diana Torok, of Clinton; five grandchildren, David, Finnian, Sean, Matthew, and Ava; his sister Eleanor DeMott of Trumbull; and several nieces and nephews survive Mr DeMott. Two sisters, Dorothy Cieszkowski and Loretta Norman, and a brother, Elwood DeMott, predeceased him.

Mr DeMott was a veteran of the United States Navy having served at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton. After receiving an honorable discharge he returned to Bridgeport and began a career at Sikorsky Aircraft in Bridgeport and Stratford. He retired as a tool inspector after 37 years.

He was an avid sailor. He loved the outdoors, especially when he was on the water in his sailboat. He was a member of Pequonneck Yacht Club and life member of the Port 5 – National Association of Naval Veterans and Fayerweather Yacht Club in Bridgeport.

After retirement, the DeMotts would spend the winter months in Florida, and in 2001 they moved to a retirement community in Uncasville where George became a volunteer at the Mystic Seaport.

Memorial calling hours will be held at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville, Saturday, February 7, from 2 to 4 pm, with a service and presentation of military honors beginning at 3 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

For those who are unable to attend the memorial in Uncasville, a celebration of his life will also be held in Bridgeport, in the spring, date and time to be announced.
