Virginia M. Powers

Virginia M. Powers, 89, wife of the late Carl E. Powers and previously a longtime resident of Sandy Hook, died February 3 in Saint John Paul II Center, Danbury. She was born in Lewiston, Maine, and was a daughter of the late Ethel (Hutchinson) and Leslie Stevens.

Mrs Powers was a resident of Sandy Hook for more than 50 years and retired in 1991 as US Mail carrier for the Sandy Hook Post Office. She was a longtime member of the Newtown Congregational Church.

Four sons, Steven C. Powers, and his wife Patricia, of Newtown, Robert Bragg of Texas, Russell Bragg of Maine, and William Bragg, and his wife Andrea, of Waldoboro, Maine; three daughters, Arline O’Dell, and her husband Richard, of Bethel, Claudia Alfredson of Derry, N.H., and Debby Bragg of Maine; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren survive Mrs Powers. A brother, Claude Stevens, predeceased her.

The family thanks the staff of the Pope John Paul II for the care, kindness, and compassion shown to Mrs Powers.

Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Friday, February 6, from 6 to 8 pm. A graveside service will take place at the Newtown Village Cemetery, in the spring.
