Dorothy A. Cogswell

Dorothy A. (Reynolds) Cogswell, 85, of Blakely, Penn., formerly of  Newtown, wife of the late Charles A. Cogswell, died on January 29.

She was born in Ridgefield on September 21, 1918, daughter of the late Clinton and Dorothy (Brady) Reynolds. She graduated at the age of 16 from Ridgefield High School and received a teachers degree from Normal School (Western Connecticut) in 1939.

Mrs Cogswell was a teacher in the Newtown School System for 31 years. She taught at both Hawley and Sandy Hook Elementary. She was a past parishioner of St Joseph Church in Danbury.

Dorothy was a beloved mother who will be sadly missed.

Mrs Cogswell is survived by her children: Dorothy E. Cogswell of Newtown, Catherine F. Coer of Pennsylvania, Elaine Cogswell of Blakely, Penn., and Charles A. Cogswell of Shelton; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her daughter, Joan Cogswell, joined her in eternal rest on February 2.

The family was scheduled to receive friends on Thursday, February 5, between 5 and 8 pm, at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for both Dorothy and her daughter Joan, at St Joseph Church, Danbury, on Friday, February 6, at 10 am. Burial will follow in St Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield.

Memorial contributions in the memory of Dorothy Cogswell may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
