Janet Baird Nerich

Janet Baird Nerich, 83, longtime resident of Redding, died February 2 after a long illness at the home of her daughter, Susan, in Waterbury.

Mrs Nerich is survived by her daughter, Susan M. Nerich, an employee of Taunton Press in Newtown, and by her sons Dann B. Nerich of Whitefield, N.H., and N. Timothy Nerich of Santa Fe, N.M.; and a grandson, Gregory N. Nerich of Whitefield, N.H.

She was born to Moubray Decker Baird and Mary Conlon Baird in Babylon, N.Y., on March 6, 1920. Always an avid tennis player, she was Long Island Women’s Tennis Champion in 1936. She married Nicholas T. Nerich, Jr, in 1944. They were married for 56 years.

Janet and Nick settled in Redding where they raised their family. Janet was owner of Janet B. Nerich Real Estate in Redding and Born Yesterday Antiques in Woodbury. Her husband Nicholas preceded her in death in 2000.

In addition to her husband, her parents, one brother, Arthur M. Baird, and two sisters, Marion Feustal and Sr Mary Julian Baird, RSM, preceded her in death.

The funeral was held at Sacred Heart Church in Georgetown on February 5. Memorial contributions may be given to the Redding Volunteer Fire Department, Redding Ridge CT 06876.
