Newtown 60, Trumbull 32 â Mike Maher scored 15 and Dan Smith contributed 10 points in the win over Trumbull. Greg Larnerd and Dylan Clark were strong defensively and did a good job controlling the boards.
Newtown 53, New Canaan 46 â A tremendous defensive effort by the entire team secured the victory for Newtown. Kevin Troy scored 18 and Bob Lapple scored 12 points, playing fine overall games. Jason and Dan Smith played very well at the point, Greg Rodden contributed some key baskets in the first half and Mike Maher played a strong overall game. Dylan Clark and Greg Larnerd shut down the middle and rebounded well.
Boys 7th â
Newtown 52, Wilton 25 â Connor Collier, Ricky Gallucci, and Kurt Nacewicz combined for 30 points to lead Newtown. Keith McGrath, Cole Depuy, and John Grimaldi chipped in four points apiece. David Bray, Daniel Quinn, and Ian Cooper scored three points apiece.
Bethel 56, Newtown 54 â Newtown rallied back in the fourth quarter and had a chance to win it with four seconds left. David Bray and Ricky Gallucci combined for 25 points to lead all scorers. Ian Cooper and John Grimaldi chipped in eight points apiece.
Newtown 56, Trumbull 41 â David Bray, Cole Depuy, John Grimaldi, and Connor Collier combined for 34 points to lead all Newtown scorers on the day. Kurt Nacewicz and Ian Cooper each scored six points, with Keith McGrath, Dan Quinn, and Ricky Gallucci chipping in four points apiece.
Brookfield 50, Newtown 36 â Newtown took a solid effort and a three-point lead into halftime, only to see their offense go cold in the third quarter. Connor Collier, Kurt Nacewicz, Daniel Quinn, and John Grimaldi combined for 30 points.
Girls 7th â
Newtown 35, Stamford 33 â A last second shot by Elissa Robertson sent the game into overtime, where Newtown won it. Rachele Cox hit a big basket and Jenna Legros and Nora Lynn Shimko both hit free throws to give Newtown the win. Robertson played an outstanding game with six points and two steals. Jenna Legros led the scoring with 14 points, and Adelle Ceretta was tough on defense and pulled down five rebounds despite having to leave the game part way through after taking a tough fall going for a steal.
Girls 6th â
Wilton 32, Newtown 29 â Strong foul shooting pulled Wilton ahead of the Lady Hawks in a well-played fourth quarter shoot out. Sara Kelley scored 10 points while Kaitlin Marsden added eight to lead the Hawks. Kate Bowen registered four assists and netted four points while Susan Mason chipped in a bucket and ripped down eight rebounds. Kristen Tanner was strong off the boards for Newtown.
Newtown 20, Greenwich 10 â Jennifer Dailey scored seven points and ripped down seven rebounds to lead Newtown. Nicole Elias, Ally Modzelewski and Sara Kelley each chipped in four points. Stephanie Suhoza had a strong floor game while Elias (10 rebounds), Susan Mason (nine rebounds) and Carolyn Fagan (six rebounds) controlled the boards.
Girls 5th â
Brookfield 26, Newtown 17 â Andrea Nazer scored eight points and Ali Pliszka added five to lead Newtown. Maggie Donohue had a strong game inside, converting a three-point play and leading the team with six rebounds. Caroline Lawrence also scored and had a strong game on defense.
Redding 18, Newtown 14 â Newtown rallied late, scoring eight of their 14 points in the fourth quarter, but ran out of time against a pesky Redding team. Andrea Nazer, KellyAnne Brophy, Alex Grant and Maggie Donohue all scored for the Nighthawks. Cady Jackman led the team in rebounds while Mara Scallonâs tenacious defense forced multiple turnovers.
Newtown 17, Danbury PAL 15 â The Nighthawks turned in their best performance of they year offensively and defensively against a very strong Danbury PAL team. Ali Pliszka converted an offensive rebound in the last minute of play for the winning basket. Lauren Meyer, Cady Jackman, and Andrea Nazer led the offensive effort as Maggie Donohue, KellyAnne Brophy, Andrea Nazer, Cady Jackman and Caroline Lawrence stopped Danburyâs strong inside game (in a previous matchup, Danburyâs center scored 21 points). Alex Grant and Mara Scallon were relentless as defensive guards, forcing multiple tie-ups and turnovers.
New Fairfield 21, Newtown 12 â Meaghan Loose, Caroline Lawrence, Lauren Meyer, Cady Jackman and Andrea Nazer all had baskets for the Hawks. Nazer again had a great overall effort, leading the team in tie-ups, scoring, and rebounds (9).
Junior Boys â
Nitro 66, Jazz 47 â Zack Varga and Kyle DiNicola scored 16 points apiece as the Nitro exploded past the Jazz. Adam Cantor and Matt Brede pulled down 11 rebounds. For the Jazz, Alex Bowen poured in 18 points as Brendan Martin and Jacob Wolf played well.
Knicks 45, Sonics 43 â Alex Stevens popped in 12 points and Ben Spiegel chipped in eight points with a pair of three pointers to lead the Knicks to the win. Ian Doerr also scored eight points. For the Sonics, Tyler Tarantino scored 17 points as Will Mahony had 13 points, 22 rebounds, and seven assists. Chris Page also played well.
Yellow Submarines 44, Rockets 32 â Jonathan Zigman canned 15 points as the Subs slipped past the Rockets. Joel Minalgo, Jimmy OâBrien and Steve Osmolik all had strong games. For the Rockets, Ryan Goodridge popped in 13 points as Peter Wlasuk, Mickey Fay and Sean Ryan had fine floor games.
Bullets 35, Lakers 31 â Charlie Kerr and Joe Cappiello scored six points apiece to lift the Bullets to the win. Kris Kling and Cody Cullens also played well. For the Lakers, Matt Mascolo canned 15 points and Nick Saviano and Ryan Boucher each grabbed 10 rebounds. Chris Marks dished off eight assists and Dan DeLaVega grabbed five steals.
Kings 42, Spurs 40 â David Manville popped in 19 points to lift the Kings past the Spurs. Adam Schankman added six points while Tyler Rudolph and Brett Mauro played well. For the Spurs, Jason Kostecki scored 12 points while Tucker LaPak dished off seven assists and Paul Andras made four steals. Thomas Faeth and David Rodriquez played well.
Huskies 56, 76ers 32 â Erik Dreher scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lift the Huskies to the win. Jared Modzelewski and Nick Urson played well. For the Sixers, Kyle Wagner scored 14 points and Walter Murphy added eight. Joey Scarpelli and Nick Garafalo had strong floor games.
Wildcats 49, Timberwolves 27 â Jake DeVellis popped in 23 points as the Wildcats clawed the T-Wolves. Ryan Drummond, Chris Basso and Brett LeBlanc had strong defensive games. For the T-Wolves, Dan Giorno had 13 points and seven rebounds while Mike Iorfino had seven points to lead the way. Nick Rosa played well.
Junior Girls â
Huskies 24, Blue Devils 19 â Kristen Gucciardo scored 12 points and Kelley Sullivan chipped in with six to lead the Huskies over the Blue Devils. Ashley Davis, Bryony Langdon, Jen Durelli, and Veronica Parsloe had great all around games. Lauren Clark scored six and Megan Hansen added four to lead the Blue Devils. Rachel Taback contributed five assists and Marina Virgalla had five steals.
Bulldogs 28, Rockets 20 â Beenish Ansari scored seven points and had a solid floor game to lead the Bulldogs over the Rockets. Colleen Murphy led the defense and Courtney Gleason was strong off the boards. Belle Hydock dropped in six points for the Rockets with Ashley Rothaker adding four and coming up with eight steals. Rachel Marlin grabbed five rebounds, Rachel Fossum had a great game on defense, and Erin Nemeth dished out four assists.
Nightmare 27, Bulldogs 20 â Jen Brill scored 10 points and had seven steals for the Nightmare in their win over the Bulldogs. Caroline Kraich chipped in with eight points with Betsy Vendel coming up with seven steals and Megan Sajovic pulling down nine rebounds. Joanna Barry canned 10 points for the Bulldogs with Kat Donahue and Erin Fish combining to grab 10 rebounds.
Pacers 32, Lightning 26 â Jen Brewer scored 10 and Renata Villarreal added eight to lead the Pacers over the Lightning. Jackie Petrasanta had eight steals and Sarah Peck grabbed seven rebounds. Meghan Trosan led the Lightning with 12 points with Rebecca Trosan chipping in with eight. Ashley Soucar had five rebounds and Keegan Frobey was outstanding on defense.
Intermediate Boys â
Nighthawks 24, Wildcats 14 â Kyle OâConnor scored 12 points as the Nighthawks slipped past the Wildcats. James Sharpe, Austin Jones and Steve Braun stood out. For the âCats, Matt Baier scored six points and Max Brazo dished off three assists.
Screaming Eagles 30, Knicks 18 â Matt Datin popped in eight points as the Eagles soared to the win. For the Knicks, Brendan Blawie had six points, Trevor Todd had four assists and Grant Braun had five rebounds. Brandon Body also played well.
Grizzlies 27, Lakers 18 â Josh Volpe, Ryan Powers (5 assists), Ryan Daly (3 blocks) and Dan Sclafani (6 rebounds) led the Grizzlies as Kyle McCarthy, John Wlasuk (8 rebounds, 3 steals, 4 blocks), Chris Winn and Scott Wexler played well for the Lakers.
Nets 30, Celtics 15 â Tom Mascher scored eight points and Carter Law dragged down eight rebounds to lift the Nets to the win. Kevin McCarthy dished off seven assists and Kevin Carney made four steals. For the Celtics, Evan Kennedy canned 12 points as Michael George, Rich Andreotta and Brad Biscoe played well.
Nighthawks 47, Knicks 26 â Kyle OâConnor popped in 16 points and Jamey Tibbetts added eight more to lead the Nighthawks past the Knicks. Eric Thornberg and James Sharpe had strong all-around games. For the Knicks, CJ Portolese and Ben Kaye combined for 10 points as Grant Braun and Dan OâConnor had fine floor games.
Screaming Eagles 35, Bullets 32 â Jeff Spencer scored 12 points (including a pair of free throws that gave the Eagles to lead) and Matt Datin grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Eagles to the win. Zack Dent made five steals. For the Bullets, Sam Kerr scored 11 points and Conor McNamara had 12 rebounds. Zach Bryan dished off six assists and Greg Campbell made eight steals.
Gators 54, Huskies 24 â Johnny Fracker scored 18 points and Nick Nazer added 12 more to lead the Gators to the win. Caleb Benore and Thomas Cascia played well. For the Huskies, Cameron Gehrman popped in six points and Tom Andurau registered three assists.
Intermediate Girls â
Gaels 32, Liberty 27 â Meredith LaPerch scored 16 points and Michelle Rahtelli added 11 to lead the Gaels to the win. For the Liberty, Morgan Schick canned eight points as Lyndsey Burns and Jessica Buyers had strong floor games.
Huskies 35, Comets 20 â Scarlet OâSullivan and Brittany Wiberg popped in 10 points apiece as the Huskies defeated the Comets. Jillian Jagoe, Sara Connor and Samantha Whitley played well. For the Comets, Gina Pisacreta scored six points, Emma Kingsley dished off six assists, and Kristen Errico played well off the glass.
Suns 25, Liberty 19 â Marisa Cucco scored eight points and play aggressive defense to lead the Suns to the win. Taylor Benson had two key baskets and rebounded well while Sara Benson, Tori Picerno and Katie McMorran had solid all-around games.

Gaels versus Huskies â Lia Tassinari, Hanna Dillon and Nicole Davis led the Gaels as Christina Caporale, Tressa Scott, Kendall Svanda and Erin Kenning played well for the Huskies.
Wolverines versus Mustangs â Nora Murphy, Molly Mahony, Tara Dowley and Lisa Cody played well for the Wolverines while Meredith Bridges, Alyssa Finkenstadt, Stephanie Roman and Mary Kay Blawie powered the Mustangs.
Knicks versus Dalmations â Kiersten Lynch, Morgan Hopper, Kristiana Engler and Nicole Rotante played well for the Knicks as Mikaela McGuire, Kelly OâSullivan, Stephanie Zamary and Caroline Kingsley anchored the Dalmations.
Celtics versus Pachangas â Kristen DiGiralamo, Abbey Doski, Sarah Stofko and Maria Biondi had solid games for the Celtics as Lefty Gomez, Melissa Ferdinand, Ann Martin and Miss Galante played well for the Pachangas.

Thundercats versus Blue Devils â Rob Uhde, Griffin Paynter, Stefan Dullinger and Rob Bauer powered the âCats while Trey Trudell, Connor Blanc, Chad Magoulas and Sam Langdon anchored the Devils.
Raptors versus Lakers â Gavin Scallon, Colin Cooper, Dan Morrissey, and Alex LaCroce played well for the Raptors while Ryan LeMay, Brandon Marks, Patrick Zingano and Eric Song played well for the Lakers.
Dragons versus Nighthawks â Eric Fiore, Scott Keating, Ivan Hutchison and Fredrik Dean played well for the Dragons while Justin Spath, Kevin Shpunt, Mike Reutzel and Chris Devaney had solid floor games for the âHawks.
Bulldogs versus Vipers â Mike LoBosco, Matthew Ryan, Jacob Laughton and Josh Villa led the Bulldogs while Travis Szalam, Jack McManus, Joe Davis and Chris Erikson anchored the Vipers.
Gators versus Orangemen â Ben Stoller, Brennan Merrick, Kyle Morrissey and Sam Ashey had strong games for the Gators as Josh Barrett, Kevin Phillips, Marcus Toms and Matt Sharpe had good performances for the Orangemen.
