Newtown Mobil 54, Imagine This 50 â Lattanzio scored 22 points (with 6-of-9 shooting from the soul line and Proulx canned 21 points (with the aid of four three-pointers) to lead Mobil. Sandy Doski had seven points and three steals while Kathy Blewett and Karen Katrinak contributed two points each. Katrinak also had four blocks as Blewett, Carolyn Bernardi and Charlotte Dubail played excellent defense. Imagine This was led by Shelby Neveriski, who scored 24 points and made four steals. Â Kelly Fegler contributed 14 points and three blocks. Suzanne Marsan, Amy Mangold and Amanda Morici combined for 12 points.

Denmoâs 61, Walsh Logging 49 â Holly Ferguson scored a game-high 29 points to help lead Denmoâs to the win. Ferguson also had nine rebounds, three steals and two assists. Laura Cook had an excellent game with 12 points, two rebounds and a steal as Â Jody Rajcula added 11 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and three assists. Vicki Davis, Kim Lowell and Steph Trolle combined for nine points, 17 rebounds. Walsh Logging was led by Ruth Rowe and Joanne Duncanson, who combined for 32 points, 26 rebounds and six steals. Hiedi Gleissner scored seven points, including a three pointer, as Doris Ratner and Pat McCullough combined for 10 points and eight rebounds.

Colorgaphix 43, The Gym At Newtown 42 â The Gym was aiming for its first win of the season, but came up two-points short. Karen Powell led Colorgraphix with 15 points, 11 rebounds and two steals as Maura Keenan added 10 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Denise Passano chipped in with eight points and 12 rebounds. Peg Bowers, Colleen Ruiz and Michelle Smith combined for 10 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and three steals. The Gym was led by Mel Darrah and Leslie Trudell, each dropping in 13 points and combining for 15 rebounds and five steals. Carolyn Schrieber and Carolyn Signorelli each dropped in six points and combined for 15 rebounds and five blocks. Joan Plavnicky added four points, eight rebounds, and three steals.

The voters certainly spoke — and I respect the outcome — but let’s not forget that a “majority” doesn’t mean everyone agreed. Many of us are deeply concerned about the rising cost of living here. Supporting schools and services is important, but so is ensuring that residents can afford to stay in the town they love. We all want Newtown to be a great place to live, but lately, it’s starting to feel less like “Nicer in Newtown” and more like “More Expensive in Newtown.” That’s not sustainable, and it’s not a criticism of the town itself — it’s a call for responsible budgeting and long-term planning that doesn’t rely on tax increases year after year. I hope future decisions will reflect not just the desire to maintain services, but also the need to ease the financial burden on residents.

Budget, Capital Projects Pass: Officials Respond

I appreciate the passion behind this message, and I absolutely understand the desire to invest in our town. That said, I voted no — not because I don't care about Newtown, but because I do. Fiscal responsibility is not about ignoring problems, it’s about making sure we address them in a sustainable and transparent way. It’s frustrating to feel like every year there’s a new “urgent” reason to raise taxes, with little serious effort to curb spending or prioritize needs. I worry this just sets the stage for another round of increases next year. That doesn't mean I’m against education, safety, or our town’s future — it means I believe in accountability and in asking tough questions about how our money is managed. Voting no wasn't a rejection of Newtown — it was a call for more thoughtful, balanced leadership. I hope future conversations can include all perspectives, not just those willing to write a bigger check.

The Voters Chose Newtown

The voters spoke, loud and clear that they support our schools and municipal services. The majority vote was a mandate to keep delivering well rated education services and keep it" Nicer in Newtown."

Thank you LeReine, for speaking out about this. The list of public servants who are unfairly targeted for abuse just for doing their jobs has been growing. It is a testament to the power of propaganda that otherwise good and well-meaning people can get so emotional as to act out in this way.
