NSA’s 66th Annual Anniversary Ball

The Newtown Scholarship Association held its 66th Annual Anniversary Ball on February 7 in Brookfield at the Candlewood Inn. The ball was well attended with more than 120 people, most dancing the night away to the music of Third Shift.

The night was chilly outside, but it warmed up very quickly inside the Inn. Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails started the evening and a silent auction overflowing with items donated by Newtown businesses kept people busy bidding throughout the night. Bidding wars were created during the evening with popular items such as sporting event tickets including the Mets, University of Connecticut women’s basketball, and New York Yankees, interior designer consultations, cooking classes, getaway vacation homes, jewelry, and many gift certificates to Newtown restaurants. There was plenty to choose from and many people walked away happy with their winnings.

The band, Third Shift, provided a wide variety of music keeping the dance floor filled throughout the evening. From swing dancing to twisting on the floor, everyone worked off their wonderful dinner of salmon fish or filet mignon. The evening ended with a Venetian table of desserts, offering a wide variety of sweets.

The evening was an overall success for the Newtown Scholarship Association. The organization awards annually more than $150,000 in scholarships to Newtown high school graduates and as continuing aid to undergraduate students. The patrons of this evening helped make this possible.
