Public Money For Private Child Care?
Public Money For Private Child Care?
To the Editor:
The Board of Selectmen has approved a budget of $25,000 for a private entity called Childrenâs Adventure Center. The increase of $5,000 was for a study to determine how to increase space for their center.
Is this study really needed to make a simple decision that is so apparent, or is this going to be a permanent increase with further costs for a private organization with town tax money? They lease the building from the town for $1 a year. The town pays for their utilities, maintenance, and medical costs. Will the town do the same for the other two or three private child care centers in Newtown? The seniors have been clamoring for space for years. Are seniors a forgotten group who are only remembered at budget time? This kind of treatment is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. Yes its small potatoes, but they grow.
The biggest holocaust is the destruction of towns by the Board of Education. Just read what Dr Pitkoffâs proposed budget for Newtown is.
